T-Shirt Printing Techniques: Heat Transfers

4th Jan 2023

Heat transfers are a popular printing technique for t-shirts, and best of all, it's easy to do at home. All you need is a printed transfer, which you can print at home on your printer or purchase online from sites such as Target Transfers or Supacolour, and with a little bit of creativity you can easily create fun, personalised t-shirts that are sure to stand out.

Heat transfer

To print using a heat transfer, you'll first need to create your design. You can do this by hand, or use a computer program to create a digital image. Once your design is ready, print it onto the sheet of heat transfer paper. Then, cut out your design, and peel off the backing.

Now, it's time to apply the transfer to your t-shirt. Preheat your iron or heat press, and place the transfer onto the shirt. Cover it with a piece of cloth, and press down firmly. Hold the iron (heat press) in place for about 30 seconds, then remove.

Now, simply peel off the transfer sheet. Your design should now be transferred onto the shirt. If there are any areas that didn't transfer correctly, just go over them again until the design is pressed onto the garment.
